First of all I would to say that this app is great!

Drum roll… please!

#10 - Beyonce - Halo

“Baby I can see your halo”

Halo debuted at number ninety-three on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number five. This song made Beyonce the female artist with the most Top Ten hits for the decade. This song, when sung well, is always sure to turn heads.

#9 - Taylor Swift - Love Story

“Don’t be afraid, we’ll make it out of this mess. It’s a love story baby just say yes.”

Love Story was certified five times platinum in December 2010. At 5,000,000 copies sold it’s no surprise that Karaoke singers around the world were eager to build their fan base with this one. Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ma let you finish, but Beyonce also — forget it.

#8 - Justin Bieber - Baby

“And I was like: baby, baby, baby ohhhh”

Love him or hate him, Justin Bieber debuted at number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and went on to go double-platinum giving Bieber his highest charting Hot 100 single to date. This song also has the added bonus of being gender neutral, although we suspect this one is sung more often by the ladies.

#7 - Ke$ha - Your Love is My Drug

“What you’ve got, boy, is hard to find. I think about it all the time. I’m all strung out, my heart is fried. I just can’t get you off my mind.”

According to Ke$ha, this song was written “on an airplane, in like ten minutes”. Those ten minutes turned into a double-platinum selling song that peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club chart. This song has all the elements of a good Karaoke song: fun lyrics, upbeat, and fun to dance to. We’ll hear more from Ke$ha later in our countdown.

#6 - Lady Gaga - Alejandro

“Don’t call my name, don’t call my name, Alejandro. I’m not your babe, I’m not your babe, Fernando”

Alejandro was Lady Gaga’s seventh successive song to reach the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100. The song was also performed on American Idol, so the crossover into mainstream Karaoke was inevitable. Even with the honor of securing the number six spot on our countdown, Lady Gaga still has an ace up her sleeve. More on that later in or countdown.

#5 - Michael Buble - Haven’t Met You Yet

“And I promise you, kid, I give so much more than I get. I just haven’t met you yet”

Michael Buble’s Haven’t Met You Yet is the song of choice for any male Karaoke singer trying to win over a female or two. According to Buble, the song is about “everyone’s dream of finding a relationship and love”. Aww… how cute. You know what else is cute? Michael Buble went platinum with this track landing him at the top of the charts in Canada and making an appearance on the Billboard Hot 100.

#4 - Usher feat. Will.I.Am - OMG

“Baby let me love you down. There’s so many ways to love ya”

Usher and Will.I.Am’s smash auto-tuned anthem was the fifth best selling song of 2010 coming in at over 3.8 million sold. It peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as in the UK and Australia. If you can pull off moves like Usher and have access to an autotuner, this song is a no-brainer for your Karaoke repertoire.

#3 - Ke$ha - Tik Tok

“And now, the dudes are lining up ‘cause they hear we got swagger, but we kick ‘em to the curb unless they look like Mick Jagger”

Ke$ha makes her second appearance on our Karaoke chart with Tik Tok. While the song initially received mixed reviews from critics, Ke$ha cashed in big in the US where she scored the biggest single-week sum of all time for a female artist. Tik Tok topped the charts and remained there for nine weeks, the most of any single for the decade. Thanks to memorable lyrics and a danceable beat, this song will go over well in any Karaoke establishment.

#2 - Kings of Leon - Use Somebody

“I’ve been roaming around, I was looking down at all I see. Painted faces fill the places I can’t reach.”

Kings of Leon make a strong appearance on our countdown with Use Somebody as the lone Alternative Rock track on a chart dominated by pop music. This is an extremely popular Karaoke track around the globe and spent 57 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. You’ll hear this song once (or more!) a night at any Karaoke establishment, and if you decide to rock it yourself remember: Sing the last line with two hands on the microphone and your eyes closed as you slowly drop to one knee. It works every time.

#1 - Lady Gaga - Poker Face

“Can’t read my, can’t read my, no he can’t read my poker face”

Poker Face defines success. It topped charts in twenty countries including the United States, but more importantly it tops our chart as the number one performed Karaoke song in 2010. The track sold over 9.8 million copies securing itself among the best-selling singles of all time. You’ve heard this hundreds of times at Karaoke and will probably hear it hundreds more.

That’s a wrap! Wondering where all the classics are? No Don’t Stop Believin’ or Total Eclipse of the Heart? We were surprised too, but the next generation of Karaoke singers has spoken! What songs did you expect to see on the list? Let us know in the comments!

The next version of Karaoke Anywhere will allow you to vote and rank tracks using your JoltSoft Connect account, so stay tuned! Also, all ten of these songs are currently featured in the Karaoke Anywhere Song Store… get ‘em while they’re hot!

Ok, so i buy the app. But then how much do the songs cost?

There are two versions of the app, one of which is free. If you have your own songs to import (MP3+Gs) you’ll want the pay version which gives you unlimited imports. If you don’t care about importing, I would go with the free version. It comes with a free song, as well, so you can try before you buy.

Our songs are 1.99 each.. they are a bit pricey, but that’s the cost due to licensing issues, etc.

That said, if you choose not to buy from our song store, you’re free to purchase from wherever you’d like and import them.

What if the crowd doesn’t like your singing as much as your cat does? What if you get things thrown at you?

Anyone who’s ever sang karaoke has had that twinge of hesitation before finally getting up on stage and letting loose. Some you may actually find memorable, some you may find deplorable, either way, you’re going to find most of them in our top ten list of karaoke performers.

1. Girls Out on Bachelorette Parties: There isn’t quite anything like a gaggle of women on a bachelorette party. Their poor friend is off to, hopefully, a long and happy marriage and what better way to send her off than a group rendition of of an off tune “Summer Nights”?

Pros: These girls will pretty much sing anything, depending on how long they have been out that night. Don’t be surprised if one of them starts to cry while singing a song that reminds her of her ex boyfriend.

Cons: They will shriek, dance, gyrate and probably vomit at some point. You’re best just watching from afar. Kinda like a safari.

2. White Guy Trying to Rap: Hey, don’t get me wrong, Eminem pretty much broke the whole “white guys can’t rap” stereotype nearly a decade ago, however, sometimes it’s best to leave the spitting to the professionals. Karaoke is hard enough without having to churn out quick verse after verse while inevitably messing up and having to do that whole awkward “sit out a verse until I can start again” thing.

Pros: They provide a nice break to the Bon Jovi and Guns n Roses songs you hear over and over again.

Cons: He probably thinks he’s really good, so don’t try and use sarcasm with him.

3. The Amazing Singer Singing Depressing Songs: There is always that one overly depressed girl who gets up in front of the karaoke machine and belts out some Celine Dion so well that you thought the skinny Canadian was doing it herself. Sad, because you know this is her time of the week to shine, but the song choice brings the mood in the room down a few notches. Her song ends with a single tear streaming down her face.

Pros: Actually makes listening to karaoke pleasant for a song or two.

Cons: You want to cry.

4. Group of 27 Frat Guys / Sorority Chicks Singing One Song: Ugh. I get it, I get it, you don’t want to sing karaoke all by yourself so you get every one of your friends up on stage and share microphones and no one really sings and… what’s the point? Seriously? There is beer pong in the back, just go do that for awhile.

Pros: You feel less stupid about your own life.

Cons: They don’t.

5. Old People Singing Old People Songs: Hey, old people like to sing, too. They just don’t like to sing the songs you like to sing because, well, they are old. Now, this category could almost be two with 5a. being Old People who Sing Sinatra and Nice Old Songs and 5b. being Old Drunk Ladies Singing Lynyrd Skynyrd with various body parts popping out all over the place.

Pros: They may help you to appreciate some good music?

Cons: They may have mental problems.

6. Super Diehard: Watch the F out. This guy or girl is serious about his or her karaoke and isn’t afraid to make it known. If you’re a karaoke DJ and you don’t have the proper version of the song that Super Diehard has been practicing on his home karaoke machine for the last… wait, scratch that, Super Diehard comes with his OWN karaoke songs on CD. Super Diehard closes his eyes when he sings or, gasp, walks around the bar because he doesn’t even NEED the TV screen to tell him what the lyrics are. HE EVEN SINGS THE PARTS THAT AREN’T ON THE SCREEN!

Pros: Super Diehard is probably good. I mean, he practices all the time.

Cons: Pretentious much? I mean, karaoke is fun and all, but you could be using your time a little more constructively.

7. The Regular With The Same Songs Each Week: Pretty much anyone who sings karaoke has a “safe” song; one they know they can pretty much nail every time. This guy, however, goes overboard by singing the SAME songs every time he goes to karaoke. The rationale is pretty simple: he knows he can do it, so why not? However, if you’re going each week with him or see him out every time you go, there is something to be said for variety.

Pros: You can already predict what he’s going to sing before he puts his slips up.

Cons: If he’s not good at these songs, get ready for a long evening. Then get ready for a long one the next time you see him.

8. The Girl Who Won’t Sing By Herself: A close cousin to the Bachelorette Party girls and the sorority sisters, The Girl Who Won’t Sing by Herself not only needs repeated affirmation that’s she’s good in order for her to pic up a mic, but she probably needs you to sing backup for her, too. It’s the equivalent of you being the training wheels to her new pink bike.

Pros: These girls almost always end up singing fairly well.

Cons: They probably know they can sing pretty well and just wanted the attention.

9. The Obviously Drunk Man or Woman: A karaoke staple. There are some people who know that a beer or two will loosen you up enough to sing well, but there are some who need to be headfirst into the bag before they have the courage to go up and sing. And, it’s never pretty. While watching someone slur their way through “I Believe In a Thing Called Love” is some sweet entertainment, be careful not to be sitting directly in front of the microphone if at all possible.

Pros: Entertainment at its finest. There is nothing quite like watching a super intoxicated person sing to a crowd of other intoxicated people.

Cons: It’s probably going to end badly.

10. The Reluctant Hero: If anyone deserves your karaoke applause, it’s the guy or gal who was thrust up on stage by his friends and, although it was probably against his or her better judgement, it was done anyway. The Reluctant Hero goes on stage, ill prepared, a slave to the lyrics that come up on the screen, but he or she does it anyway. And why? Because, that’s what karaoke is all about. Whether you’re out there to practice for your audition on American Idol or you were forced to sing “Bad to the Bone” by your buddies, it’s all about participation people!

Pros: These people will also probably help you change your tire if you have a flat in the parking lot.

Cons: They probably end up paying for their friends’ bar tab. Pushovers.
